best restaurant in town
Lars, such a great dinner!! The Three Mushroom appetizer was fabuloso, as was the lamb that followed. Such a good time--everyone came away happy! S & P
Excellent....in every way!!!!!! I would very highly recommend it.
Restaurant is a product of it's own hype. Food is average at best. The chef's arrogance is evident in the lackluster dishes. Allegro... I'd say lento would be a more apt superlative. Save yourself the trouble and eat at one of the chain restaurants.
less good than macdonalds
Good healthy food...great atmosphere...beautiful inside...great experience!
Certainly better than the chains and perhap the only option for not eating off the back of a Sysco truck. (BTW, I mean the foodservices company not the defunt local steel operation!) Lots of potential to be something special but its not nearly there.
The food is way to complicated and over the top. Chef should cut the menu to half or less and cut the number of ingredients by the same. Its Cape Breton not Tuscany.
We thought it was excellent - supurb food and great service.
Judging by the past reviews I'm just sorry(but not surprised) that the people of Sydney are so narrow minded that they can't enjoy something that is a little more inspiring than grease or food from one of the 15 Chinese restaurants or the generic chain restaurants. Branch out once in awhile.
i am always pleased with my meals, everything is so fresh and tastey. highly recommended if you are looking for something off the beaten path in sydney.
I love this restaurant. The food is excellent and I recommend it to anyone looking for a great, healthy place to dine. If you have food allergies...it's the place to go, they will accommodate you. Thumbs up and keep up the good work. I always leave the place, very satisfied and full!!!!
Great place to eat . The food is fresh very tasty and heathy . what more could you want?
my wife and i use to attend this restaurant before children, but after we had children seemed like we were not welcome to this restaurant by both the owner/chef and staff. Do not recommend if you have children, chef and staff think they are above this. They seem to provide more hype about their food, but its really similar to meals you can provide at home. He said we had to book
we need more variety during the day....red lentil soup ALL the time...mix it up please
i go to allegro grill & deli all the time, it is my favorite place to eat....the food is amazing!
Fresh ingredients, accommodating service, nice atmosphere... allegro is a great place to dine. Whoever said that chef Jared was arrogant has obviously never met the man. He is friendly and down to earth, I've met him on several occasions at a previous job. The menu is daunting at first, but give it a chance and you will love the results. I think it would be a good idea to put something closer to the norm in CB on the menu for the less adventurous. Give it a chance, you will love it! We need more establishments such as this in CB.
Excellent food and Service - the best resturant on Cape Breton Island.
After all the hype I was a bit disappointed. I have had better steak in my backyard. Not impressed with the steak knife either,it did more hacking of the meat than slicing. The dessert was phenomenal though and the service was good. Am uncertain if I will go back and try again. If I am paying 70 dollars for two people I want to be wowed.
I have always had excellent meals at Allegro. I am a regular customer who has enjoyed each and every experience.
This is the best restaurant in town and the food is consistently excellent. The food is very tasty not least because the chef uses as many local ingredients as possible. It's true, however, that this is not a family restaurant. Also, given how fabulous the food is, I'm surprised that the decor is not a little more "swanky" (it's attractive, just not as high end as I might have expected). But seriously, the food is amazing.
I am a regular customer at this restaurant and have been for years. The food is healthy and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The International Dinners are always an adventure and well worth checking out. Best place in town!
Had the experience of attending a pricey "International Dinner".
We ate in the dark at tables scrunched together.
The waiter constantly rubbed his face and hair while serving.
I was not impressed.
Yet another disappointment. Have I been watching too many cooking shows or is my level of expectation too high? Each time I return with hopes of a better experience I leave let down and a $100 lighter. Appetizers asiago pizza tasted/looked like mozzarella - when questioned, the waitress simply checked menu without consulting chef and then told me that it was a mild flavoured asiago - ? why did she say it was strong sharp flavoured cheese before checking the menu. Beef / goat cheese crostini - okay but for $9 in Sydney, seemed a little light in size. Meal Lamb chops with veggies should be called lamb bones with oil saturated veggies. Blackened haddock with veggies - the fish was warm at best plus I think the guy next to me got the last order as the portion size paler in comparison. Nero remains the house wine since opening - time for a change. The service was good (very pleasant and knowledgeable) yet will regrettably not return.
I had a fabulous meal. I had a rib steak special - kudos to the chef. Hot fresh food - great wine - great service - I was delighted. My first time there but it will NOT be my last.
The quality of food equals the price you pay. I had a delicious fresh meal and wonderful wine. It was my first time there but hopefully not my last.
